Good News on the nose front.

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

I experienced a severe nosebleed last week that resulted in a trip to the local ER. No fun. The no fun continued until today as I had a "tampon" shoved up my left nostril to stem the flow of my ruptured vessel. Boy, was I glad to finally get it removed this morning and I could finally breathe again.

Today, I got more good news from my boss' boss, known here as my grand boss, that I can attend an upcoming user conference for one of the software products I support at our company.

Well, that's all for now. Maybe more later.

Feeling Great Today!!

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

In spite of not getting the most restful sleep I could, I feel energized today. No technology challenge will be too difficult for me to conquer today. I am getting ready to infuse my user base with new knowledge of the applications I support at my company.

We are a growing business that has committed to the Microsoft software platform. We are not 100% WIN XP -- we do have a few Macs in certain areas. Fortunately, they are not my responsibility. Most of our servers are Intel-based running Windows 2003. Our desktops are a mix of HP and locally made pc's.

I support an application that has close to 150 users on the system. The back end is SQL Server 2000 for now. We use terminal servers to access the application -- they are supposed to be load balanced but our user community thinks one of the systems is not working correctly. This leads to many more users being on one of the terminal servers.

Right now, I have 21 users on one terminal server and only 7 on the other. Oh well. Maybe we can get this perception changed when we upgrade to the new release of the app in a few weeks.

I have to get back to work now. Talk again soon.

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

Today is an amazing day in my life. I became a Christian 45 years while listening to a WMBI radio broadcast at home with my mom. It has been an interesting trip through life with Christ living in me. I am not perfect but FORGIVEN!!!

Where have I been? Hard at work & at home!

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

Well, we got a new puppy at home. The experience of puppy training has been very frustrating for Big Dog Mama, my wife. The Aussie Shepherd Mix we got is a very rambunctious, little guy. We named him Luke to go with our other dog, Leia.

At work, I have been focused on an upgrade to our donor software system which has not been going as well as I'd like. Hopefully, we will be able to get it approved for installation to our production environment by early March. We are late in the cycle for adopting this release and there is another one coming end of March and/or early April.

That's all for now. Talk to you later.

Work keeps getting in the way of playing/learning on TR

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

Hi, all. I have a big upgrade that I am looking/staring in the face of that will be taking place over the weekend. Vendor is asking me to be available at ungodly hour of 4:00 AM on Saturday morning. Yikes!!

So, next week will be fun trying to get the bugs worked out of the system after the upgrade is completed. Even though we have tested the upgrade, I know that there will be some issues.

I have had a little trouble this week with getting enough sleep and it looks like this weekend will not help me get some more. We have a section final basketball game to go to for our local high school girls' team. It will be a great game and we hope we will win. We have played our opponent twice already this season and have split the series.

That's all for now. Got to get back to work.

Local High School Girls BB team keeps winning

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

We are still in the hunt for the NorCal championship after winning last night. Yeah team.

They have to travel to the Bay Area for the next game on Thursday night but we are going to see Chicago so can't go.

Work is going well - upgrade of our donor software package was completed over the weekend with just a few glitches. We have another release from our vendor in a couple of months. Hope they knock it off for a while then.

Puppy is growing bigger every week. One more puppy training class tonight. Then we will probably do another series. He is just not getting it quite yet.

That's all for now.

I love technology!!

by Bergy In reply to Bergy's Big Dog Blogs

I have been in love with technology for over 25 years. I have been married for over 34 years now. Which relationship is the adulterous one? I can't decide.

My company provided laptop and wireless networking capability allows me great freedom to work anywhere at home but, it comes with a great price. My wife is jealous of this little guy who sits on my lap and draws my attention away from some inane program she is watching on the tube.

So, my question to you who might be reading my blog is -- What is the solution you would recommend?

I have so much more to discover on the Internet and so much to learn. Will she ever understand that I can't do it at work but must do it at home also?

Help my in my plight, please!!!!
