Well, to begin.
Building a PC is very personal, like a carr.
what I mean with that is that if you asked 5 people what the best PC is you get 5 different PC's.
So I'm just going to give you some basics, because it also depents on your budget.

everything below is ofcource my opinion.

CPU= AMD Athlon XP (this is the best gaming cpu at the moment.)
Videocard= Nvidia Geforce4 is the best choice
memory= DDR ram (512 is nice)
The rest (motherboard, soundcard, harddisk, case) depents on your budget.
Good luck.

Have a look at the systems they sell at this site, they've won several awards for their systems including The Ultimate Gaming Machine award from Computer Gaming World magazine for 2001. Just looking at their many machines & components they use should help.

FYI, don't buy a Geforce4 MX card, they're really just optimized/souped up Geforce 2 cards with more memory. The best gaming sound system would probably be the Hercules XP Game Theater system along with some Klipsch 5.1 THX speakers. Don't buy cheapram, go with Crucial, Kingston, or Corsair if you have the bucks. I'd go with nothing lower than a 400watt powersupply too.
