best practices in application support

By kkirk ·
I am doing research for my boss and am at a loss as where to start. I am to do research on best practices in application support. I am completely new to this field and am looking for some guidance. ALso, I was asked to research some guidelines and examples for SLAs. Does anyone out there know where I should begin to look. I've been looking through white papers from Gartner but none of them deal with application support. Does app support have another name? I know this post must sound extremeley elementary to the pros, but I would appreciate any respones.

This may be of interest, Bill's 'new' (less than 5000 certified so far) certification - Desktop Support Technician. MCDST is two core subjects, the one that may interst you is 70-272, Desktop Applications Support for XP. Since they are continually updating their cetifications to 'meet industry requirements' (them), mcdst and in particular 70-272 might give you some insight into best practices or at least their slant on it.
This is the google result, by the time you read this you probably will have an idea of where you need to go next.....
