I’ll start off by saying that I am not the IT guy, but since we don’t have one, I’m about as close as you get.
Here at the office, we have a server running Windows Server 2003. There are two different types of users who need access to our network 1)people in the office (no problems here), 2)people who work from home (the basis of my question).
For the users who work from home, in order to gain access to the network, they log on to the server via Remote Desktop to the server itself since they don’t have systems here in the office. Remote users don’t particularly need access to programs that exist on the network, they just need access to files that exist on the network.
With this in mind I don’t believe that remote desktop is the best solution, since it is clunky. I was thinking that a VPN would be a good choice, but don’t know a lot about it. My boss wanted me to explain what the difference is, but I’m not well suited to do that at this point. Any help would be much appreciated!
