Big carriers are getting close to offering Virtual Private LAN Services

By jasonhiner Moderator ·
MCI, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and SBC are just a few of the telecom companies that could be offering VPLS to enterprises by the beginning of 2005, according to NetworkWorldFusion (http://tinyurl.com/42fvx). VPLS, which provides a cost-effective high-bandwidth solution for connecting various branch offices, is currently having its standards finalized by the IETF. Once that happens, it will clear the way for equipment vendors such as Cisco, Alcatel, and Juniper to work on interoperability between their disparate solutions. How do you think VPLS could potentially change the shape and performance of your network?
