Immigration and guestworkers will not promote competitiveness. Immigration promotes housing inflation which in turn inflates salary requirements — making us less competitive in the world market.
Driving down wages with immigrant labor also increases the largest portion of the cost of U.S. living — housing.
Guestworker emigration causes the donor country’s rental market to flatten — the best option for the guestworker is to move home and take the job with him.
The percentage of the Average Mean Income (AMI) required to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in California is now 72%.
In other words, the traditional 30% of income housing formula for California requires a yearly income of $47547.00 to afford that 2 bed apt., at Fair Market Rental (FMR)
These rental rates have increased 37% since 2000 while earnings have decreased.
So where does the government propose that we will house the 1 million new immigrants for 2007?
