BIOS

by jgsalty2 . Updated 24 years, 10 months ago

I’m trying to build a machine with SuSe 7.2. Since I couldn’t get it to work, I decided to add SuSe to my functioning machine and move the harddrive to the new machine.

It didn’t work. SuSe only worked on the computer it was installed on. My new machine also didn’t recognize my primary IDE. I figured it must be a configuration or BIOS problem, so I tried several times to re-configure SuSe but nothing worked. So I decided to try something stupid, I moved the BIOS chip from the original computer and put it into the new computer. At first I must have put the chip in upside down because the chip became very hot. As soon as I noticed the temp, I corrected the problem. The chip didn’t work, so I put the original one back in. Now the machine won’t even go through POST. Is the problem with the BIOS chip or something else??

Thanks,
JGSalty
