Bios Password

By Rudi ·
I've been given the assignment of Technology Coordinator at the school I teach. I have a computer with a startup/bios password on it that no one seems to know. Is there a way of getting around the password to reset so there is no password?

Bios Password

Here's a recent article posted here about it.

(Sometimes when I cut and paste URL's it looks ok to me but once the answer is posted, an extraneous space will have crept in. Make sure you delete any extraneous spaces or the page won't load).

Thanks, it was a matter of about 3 minutes for me to take care of this.

Bios Password

Some systems have a jumper on the motherboard that can be re-positioned to disable a CMOS password. If you find this, it will be very easy. Additionally, there are several free/cheap utilities on the Internet that can break or disable many passwords. The easiest way though, is to remove the battery for a time, and the password will simply die without power. If the battery is easily removeable, such as a cion-shaped CR-2032, there will be no problems. If the battery is enclosed in a Real-time-clock-CMOS-battery chip (like a Dallas module), you can open the module and momentarily short the battery contacts inside to clear the CMOS. Hope this has been somewhat helpful.
