BIOS POST error: faulty pc, HELP!

by slystav . Updated 22 years, 8 months ago

ok heres my problem: i offered to rebuild a friends pc (bad idea) and replaced all the internals with improved processor, motherboard, memory, graphics card and hard disk. graphics: WINFAST 3D S320V 8MB AGP; CPU: 750mhz duron; memory: unknown brand, 133mhz,sdr, 128mb; mobo: asus a7a266e ; hdd: ata 100 wdc or seagate (dont remember). everything worked ok for a while until he installed something (just a printer driver or something, totally reliable, not downloaded or tampered with). the pc crashed when he rebooted it to a blue screen before it could go into safe or normal mode. ‘ok lets just reinstall windows or something’ i thought but now the pc turns on but doesnt post. i left it off all weekend and set the jumpers to manual mode (700mhz, 100mhz fsb to be safe) and it turned on, where it worked fine but when i saved the bios and restarted ready to reinstall it stopped posting again and was turned on with the ide lights flashing but no beeps and no graphics.
i have tried several combinations of manual and auto fsb settings and also a different gfx card. all parts are second hand so although i think they are fine i am open to suggestions. my next step is to take everything back out of the case, get it working and then put it back but i do not understand why when i leave it off for a few hours it starts ok. i checked the cpu and case temps the first time the bios went on ok and they were fine. all the fans and lights come on. there are no instructions in the mobo manual for receiving no beeps. HELP please!!
