I have a customer built XP Pro machine that recently had the BIOS upgraded because of some reboot and lock up issues. The BIOS upgrade was carried out to the manufacturer's specification. They are a reputable company, providing the vast majority of BIOS upgrades. The BIOS upgrade didn't completely take and I get some minor errs when booting (Unrecognized FLASH BIOS). I have tried to restore the old BIOS, but can't because it doesn't recognize the current BIOS, nor can I try to re-install the upgrade because it also does not recognize the BIOS. Is there any way I can force the BIOS to either the original version or finish the upgrade.

Put the Bios image on a blank and freshly formatted disk. Name it EX:AMIBOOT.ROM Check that it is not write protected and that windows didn't screw up the name like AMIBO~1.ROM or so. Insert the disk and start the PC holding Ctrl+Home. The BIOS will automatically upgrade from Your flopy (you will be seeing flopy's light on and hearing flopy working). After about 1-4 minutes you will hear 4 beeps signing the provess is over. Switch te PC off, clear CMOS (wait for 15 sec.), switch the PC on and set up the right settings in Your new BIOS - and You are done! Best regards and good luck! It is an AMI BIOS, ASUS motherboard. I have tried re-installing the old BIOS, it loads partially and then aborts saying it can't determine what BIOS type I currently have in the machine. I have tried re-installing the upgrade, same error message. In both instances, the BIOS starts to load and about half way through the load sequence, it aborts saying that the current type of BIOS could not be established.
