Black screen / booting from CD problem.

by kimpaw . Updated 16 years, 7 months ago

Hi, i have a big problem with my pc, its an dell dimension 5150.

when i start the pc, following comes up: “drive 1 not found: serial ATA, SATA-2 o Drive 3 not found: parallel ATA, PATA-1 (PRI IDE Slave)
Intel (R) Matrix Storage Manager option ROM v5.0.2.1005 ICH7R.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility”

(and some other random non importent text)

When i press F1, it comes the “press any key to boot from cd” so i do that, but nothing happens, only a black screen, been waiting for ages cus i can hear that the pc is working but doesnt matter how long i wait, nothing happens.

i?ve tryed doing the same thing but with windows 98 cd, with that i get into the blue screen with “format unit (recommended)” or “cancel”. it says on top of that “cant install windows-files on harddrive since unit C has a format that isnt compatible with windows 98 etc.

any tip how i can fix this? (sorry if my english aint great). thnx.
