Black screen no display input

By rudijak ·
hi i recently installed an ati radeon x700 video card into my computer. it worked fine untill i was adjusting the display settings to watch on tv..

the screen went black & now it as if there is no signal going to the monitor from the computer.

in safe mode the display will show on the tv but not on the lcd monitor.

i have removed the card & the computer defaults to the on-board intel gma. & works fine ( obviously no tv-out ).

i've tried F8 to start the system in low res but no joy.

any ideas?

Depends on a few different things here ...

Firstly, can you remember what you did to the graphics card while adjusting it for TV display? What resolution were you attempting just before the screen went black?

You haven't mentioned any details of the TV involved here - what type of screen is it, what is the refresh rate and what is its native resolution?

I'm puzzled that your TV can display an image when the computer boots to Safe Mode - in Safe Mode there are NO DRIVERS loaded for the graphics card, which is why Safe Mode is usually used to rescue graphics settings that prevent any screen image under normal boot.

OK then the most likely thing is that you have disabled

The Monitor and switched everything to the TV and have the wrong settings for the TV to display.

Start off by removing the Video Card and then using the On Board Graphics and boot the computer. When it is running remove the ATI Drivers and turn off. Refit the Video Card and reboot. Then uninstall th ATI Drivers and you will be back to having the Default settings.

Do Not turn off the Monitors video in favor of the TV as you are resetting your video settings.
