i am in the process of upgrading a pc for a friend. try not to laugh he had a packard bell p75 with 16 mb’s of ram, win 3.1. no extras. i set him up with my gf’s old p233 with 128 mb’s of ram, 8 gb hd, win 2k.
here is the problem.
this is a working pc mind you my girlfriend was just using this pc a little over a week ago. i wiped the drive, partitioned it, installed win 2k. did all the updates for win 2k and ie. installed his isp (aoHELL). defragged, set up the page files, there were noconflicks all is good. the machine ran all day doing updates and defrag and everything all is good rebooted numerous times. the pc works.
i take it to his house plug in to his keyboard/mouse/monitor/external modem which again he has a working computer. i boot up and the computer either freezes or go through the initial starting windows screen and stops just before the second blue and white screen or it gets past that and i get a fuzzy greyish looking screen. nothing else.
i have taken the pc back several times and rest it up on my test station and it works. so i purchased a new keyboard and mouse for him and again went over there and it quit. we swapped monitors and still nothing. im lost here.
