blank white dialog box when opening sys restore in safe mode

By rpalasek ·
computer was running slow, so I went back to system restore points. I did several. On the last one, computer rebooted and I didnt sign on to see how it restored my computer. I had the option to turn it off so I turned it off.
The next day when booting up it froze. My A: drive is disabled, and so are the disk drives I cant even put a cd in the drive, what's even worse, I have no connection to interenet and I have to use another computer to hook up with the outside. I cant download anything and I tried creating/running VBS. I shut off the power and started over, I havent been able to view Word, Excel, and use a lot of the programs and utilities. I get as far as sys/restore, but in Normal and Safe modes, it brings up white boxes. I have gone to kellys-korner.com and followed all 8 pages of prmpting sysrestor, NO LUCK! I did find the mfc42.dll file (which some dialog boxes says is missing) in the system 32 folder, but I cant open it. What's a mother to do?
