Blaster quick fix will this work?

By allen ·

I have friend who works for a IT department that is under staffed. He has over 500 computers to patch him and his small team. I was wondering if he were to setup a group policy that said don't run blaster.exe file would this prevent the machine from getting the worm?

Why dont you copy the downloaded quickfix on a shared location, and let all users just run it from there? It might be the easiest way to get around with this.
You can cross-check your patches on each machine by using Microsofts' recently provided tool for Network Administrators to check which machines over the network are unpatched. Get it, and use it.
And yes, you are running out of time..get going quickly!!
Best of Luck.

He is moving as fast as he can. In order to do as you suggest you have to give each user administrator rights to the machine. This isn't possible in the enviroment he is in.
