Locked

Blue Screen

By Moses16 ·
I have a user that when she shut down her Windows XP desktop (Dell GX260) she receives a blue screen with no error message and I have to manually shut it down and it restarts fine. Any ideas.

Thanks

Maurice

Fix it with

The MS user profile hive cleanup tool.

This may help fix shutdown problems from corrupt entries in the hive. I have used it 4 times with 2 success. The other 2 were for startup problems, but it didnt help there.

W2, amazing timing.

I had a user that couldn't log on her PC after anyone else had used it before she did. It wasn't giving us a blue screen but just wouldn't let her log on. She just brought it to my attention this morning and I was just about to recreate a new profile locally and if that didn't work create a whole new profile. I just happened to check this post out and tried the download. So far it looks like it may have worked. Thanks.

It has only worked on shutdown problems for me in the past. Interesting. Maybe I'll give it another look. Thanks

about an hour of test with no incidence and I asked the user to let me know over the next week or so if it happens again. I'll try to come back to this next week and give an update.
