blue screen then hdd failure message

By RG11 ·
I have a dell inspiron 6000 that was giving some problems, after cleaning off spyware and multiple viruses, the unit is running better but still occasionall giving the blue screen of death for about 3-4 seconds then the screen goes black and says at the top in white letters, HDD failure. I have run the built in dell diagnostics on the hard drive and it passes twice. Is it possible there is a problem with something other than the Hard drive that would cause this?

I would test with the HDD Makers Utility

Then if the drive fails this test remove it fit to another suitable computer and test again. If it passes now either the M'Board, Data Lead or Power Supply is faulty and needs replacing.

If they don't have another system and the drive fails the test try booting off a Live Linux

Or one from a Cover Disc on a Linux Mag from the local Newsagent and test the system again under this Platform.

Incorrect configuration settings in System Setup program, improperly connected hard-disk drive cable, faulty hard-disk drive controller subsystem (defective system board), or loose power cable.
