I have an old pentium 133 laptop and everytime it boots it runs chkdsk it freezes at 77% complete. I tried booting in safe mode and still freezes at 77%. Any help?

sounds like a bad hd. Try to format and reinstall OS. If you cannot format, you
have a bad drive.

You may not have to trash that old hard drive. If you can find a low-level formatting program, you may be able to restore the drive to its "prime" condition. Seagate has a low-level format utility that will work on most any drive as long as you know the Cylinders, Heads and Sector counts. A low level format will wipe everything off the drive and take as little as 2 hours to process (notice i say "as little'). Once you have done this, you will need to run FDISK and format and reinstall Windows.

Good Luck!
