Boot Disk Error...please insert system disk

Hey just wondering if anyone can help me out. i recently aquired a new secondhand p.c.
and every time i turn it on it goes to a black screen saying 'boot disk error...please insert system disk' i didnt get any c.d's with the computer...can anyone help me???!?!

Sounds like you didn't

get an Operating System in the deal or there is a Non Operating System disk in the Floppy Drive or CD ROM which would require removing.

There are a couple of ways to go Linux or M$.

Linux can be downloaded and burnt to CD for installing for free. Or you can invest in an Operating System from M$.

isn't worth spending a lot of money on and you do decide to use Linux try a copy of PC Linux. It has worked on every PC that I have pointed it at so far and it is relatively easy to use. There are a few Linux users here on TR so if you run into problems I am sure that you will be able to get help.

i install linux on my p.c will i be able to use a word processor that is compatible with microsoft word. As i am a journalist and am frequently writing articles on my p.c and sending them through email to a workplace that only runs windows.
