Boot disk for All windows versions?

By Hazzard_005 ·
I am attempting to create a Boot CD-Rom which will be able to boot to all windows flavors. I'm in a mixed environment with 95, nt4 sp6a, 2000 pro, and NT4 servers. I know there has to be a way to do this. I want a way to be able to boot to any ofthe computers and troubleshoot any of them. I want to know if there is a way to boot to and see a fat16, fat32, and ntfs partitions. I have a boot cd which emulates a 98 floppy but that limits me from seeing any ntfs partitions. I've heard there is a way to boot to and see ntfs5 to troubleshoot it but I do not know it.

Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks Rich

I'm not aware of any way to do what your talking about. The best I could suggest is to look into ntfsdos. that way you could boot dos/win9x and after loading it be able to access ntfs partitons to read and write

I have a theory, just don't have the software to try it out. You might try creating a W2K based multi boot CD.

Start with a spare system to work this out.
Set up the hard drive with a seperate partition for each OS.
Load the OS's in age order (oldest first)
After W2K is installed, edit boot.ini to go into DOS mode for each OS.

Now, change the installed OS's to the boot floppy files, and again revise boot.ini as needed.

If at this point, you can boot into each OS boot disk, then you should be able to burn the files onto a bootable CD.

For details on the boot.ini commands, check out the boot.ini section at www.systeminternals.com
Or, search at Microsoft on the keywords boot.ini and bootcfg

This is the title of a Tech Republic article on creating an ntsf boot disk.

Create a bootable NTFS disk

I have found that you need to use all lower case letters when searching for TR articles.

The article has a link in it to www.winternals.com for an alternate solution.

I Think your Theory sounds good. I'm going to give it a try along with the information I gathered between you and Soulrider. Thanks.

By the way TheChas I have seen your many exploits here and always keep an eye out to see what you have to sayon any question. You seem to always have great ideas.

Thanks again to all 3 of you.
