Boot Failure: system Halted

by joanna.wyckoff . Updated 19 years ago

My boss’s work computer crashed last week and he really needs to recover his contacts in his outlook. He took it to a guy who told him that “it’s not spinning fast enough but the info could be recovered at the price of $1000”. He also tried it in another pc. I’m assuming that the tech meant the platter isn’t spinning fast enough. So he asked me if I could look at it……….so when I booted it up, I got the gateway screen for awhile, then it started booting……….and gave these messages:
DHCP
PXE-E53: No Boot Filename received
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE Rom.
Boot Failure: System Halted

Now, I had tried to use SPOTMAU POWERSUITE 2007 to see if it would at least recover data. When I did this, it told me that Windows was not found. I went to “Partition Genius” to do a Surface scan, and no drive was found………………………

This pc was also running Windows 2000……

Since I can’t even get to the Setup option- I can’t get into Safe mode or anything.

I don’t know what to do now.

My idea is to make his hd a slave drive on my pc, but I’m not sure if that would help at all.

Any ideas would be appreciated. If you suggest something, I would appreciate a “how to” since I’m just learning this stuff.
