    Boot Issues

    Locked

    by var1016 ·

    Greetings and a happy new year to all.

    I have a long running problem with Boot.

    I am running XP Pro, but at one time installed Windows 7, which I later removed. Sadly the boot file now tries to load Win 7 (which of course isn’t there). So when I start the computer I have to select “Earlier Version of Windows”. The boot notepad file requires BCDEdit.exe, which does not exist on my computer.

    How can I modify the boot file to get rid of this annoying problem?. Here’s a copy of the boot file:

    ;
    ;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
    ;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
    ;
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

    Thanks in advance and regards to all

    Paul

      No need to modify the boot.ini

      Boot from your W7 DVD and on the first screen click Next, click Repair your computer, click Next and select Command Prompt.

      Type in bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force

      Type exit

      Restart the System

      This will set the MBR for XP and it should load straight to XP.
