boot pc from an external floppy drive

By leaundrae ·
I am would like to install a new hard drive on my notebook but the floppy drive does not work. I am thinking about buying an external hard drive for booting my system during the HD instillation process. Could any one tell me if a laptop can boot from a external floppy drive and if so is there any thing that I need to do to get the computer to boot to the usb external floppy drive?

Simple answer is NO!

For any external drives to work they need the drivers installed on something that can be read by the BIOS and external drives are not readable but you should be able to use the CD/DVD ROM to boot from to reload the system.

Check in your bios to see if there is a usb option in the boot section.

If there is select that as the boot primary.
