boot-start driver failed to load

by mkfme . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I’m getting a 7026 event when I boot an NT 4.0 SP-5 workstation – “The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: Au88nt.” This seems to relate to the 3Com 905B-TX NIC. I’ve reinstalled the driver and swapped out the card. I’ve also replaced the 2 Au88nt files in the OS w/copies from another identical PC tha works properly, but the error message persists. The user reports having network problems when the error first appeared (out of the blue – no previous problems, hardware or software changes the previous 18 mos.) The PC seems to be working OK on the network at the moment despite the error message at boot. I’ve searched the MS and 3Com KBs with no luck. Suggestions are much appreciated.
