boot up error

I took a hard drive out of a dell p3 computer and put it in a dell 8200 p4 computer and got an error message, try fixboot, fix mbr still nothing, any suggestions

You will have issues if you try to boot the computer with the P3 load on the P4 machine. It has different chipsets, therefore will show a BSOD. The only way to boot that HDD is to reload the OS.

Just put the drive back into the old PC and change the IDE driver

You must change the IDE disk controller driver to the generic microsoft driver, or you will get STOP ERRORS every time you move a drive to another system which does not have identical hardware. You have to boot windows on the old system, change the ide drivers to the generic microsoft ones, then the drive should boot just fine with the new mobo.
