I have been working on a system that is running Win98SE that takes 45 secs from the time it brings up the bios settings to display the harddrive type and then another 40 secs to start Win98SE. The system is a local build and has a Soyo SY-5EMA+v1.1 Mobo with an AMD-K62 500 Socket 7 proc with award bios v1.0A 4.51pg.
I have tried the following just to be sure: Bios flash, cmos edit(several times), renamed autoexec.bat and config.sys(even though I believe it is hanging before these ever start),deleted programs that I thought might have impacts, checked startup, edited msdos.sys to stop dblspace & drvspace from starting, etc, etc, etc….
I could use some real smarts about now before I throw this pc back at the user and tell ’em where it should be put.
Thanks,
