Is there any way to make a bootable Linux USB so I can run Windows and have Linux on the "go".

I'll point you to:
http://openfacts.berlios.de/index-en.phtml?title=Linux_bootable_USB_key_HOWTO

This will point you to distros that are small enough to boot off a USB drive. There is also Damn Small Linux, that works really well.

There are also "live" CDs that will allow you to fire up linux off the CD.

Try Puppy Linux.

Agree - puppy was easy

Got puppy onto a live CD then "made" a bootable USB stick with its utility. 128MB stick is sufficient unless you want to install big apps. Even got it to work with wireless. BTW, this includes Xorg.

sells a usb drive pre-loaded with DSL linux, or you can d/l the distro and make your own.
