Bootable USB help

im trying to make a bootable usb drive for a friend , two problems the hardrive on the vista comp is dead, and cd is lost i googled it and most of the ways require the cd, is there anyway to make the usb bootable under those conditions,

basically make a usb bootable without a working vista or cd?

but it has the other computers have windows 7 not vista im trying to do a vista bootable usb but am going to try windows 7 bootable usb if theres no other option

Well if this is a Off the shelf type Computer you can always contact the maker and order a Recovery Set.

No other way to proceed without the Recovery Set or a Original Install Disc.

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish with the bootable drive?

You want it bootable, but what are you trying to boot from the drive, and for what reason?

to make the computer usable and nothing else, reason my friend cant afford to get it fixed or buy a new one

Not if you are trying to make it from the dead computer

If the computer will boot up to the point that you see the Bios information. Like the Bios info, memory ect. Then you may be able to save the files from it, try using another computer and down load and run UBCD4WIN.
It has some great tools to fix and try to save files to a CD or a USB.
After creating the boot CD but before you boot to it plug in your flash drive.
