    Booting from floppy drive problem

    Locked

    by bkjohnson ·

My dell pc won’t boot up to a bootable floppy disk. When I checked cmos – the floppy drive is there but it is greyed out – alleviating making it a factor in the boot process. I can open up folders on a floppy and work with files as well. The pc simply will ack bootable floppy disk / drive. Any suggestions – please!

I would recheck your power and controller connections. If you have another system available you could temporarily install the floppy in the other system to test it. If it works there, then you know that you have a working floppy and should try replacing the cables. Hope this helps.

I would begin by checking your floppy carefully. Make sure it is connected securely and has power. If the BIOS does not detect it after that, replace it with a known good floppy. If that does not work either, it may signal that the problem is with the floppy controller itself.

      Good luck…hope this helps!
