Booting of XP

By david.kennedy ·
So this is kind of strange and is very baffling. My current situation is: I have 2 sata drives. When they are both plugged in Windows does not boot. Power PC off and unplug the secondary drive and Windows boots. I than plug the 2nd drive in and windows sees it, I can access the files.

Every thing is up to date as far as drive for sata and system as far as I know. Cannot even boot into "safe mode".

Boot Order

by TheChas In reply to Booting of XP

By do not boot, do you get an error message or does the Windows boot process stop mid-way?

It sounds like the second SATA drive may be being set by the BIOS as the boot drive.

I have at least 1 motherboard where the SATA connector markings and the BIOS drive order do not match.

Try swapping SATA data cables at either the drive or mainboard end and see if that fixes things.
