Bootup, IRQL 2 and Usrbridg.exe problems

By bkubai ·
I have a computer with several problems, but I am not sure whether they are related.

1. The machine hangs on restart, but will start properly if given time to ?cool? down. This happens whether the restart is deliberate or from a blue screen.
2. The computer reports an error after startup Usrbridg.exe The instruction at ?0x77e73d7d? referenced memory at ?0x0000080c?. The memory could not be written. The Error Signature comes up later with the following details: szAppName: usrbridg.exe szAppVer: szModName: kernel32.dll szModVer: 5.1.2600.0 offset: 0005f974
3. Playing a certain big mpg file in Media Player 9 always results in a STOP 0x0A message on a blue screen. Details: IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL ??. STOP: 0x0000000A(0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804E9E1.

From details in Microsoft KB article 314063, there could be a problem with IRQ2. The Device Manager shows that there is no device assigned IRQ 2. Under my old Windows 98 computer, IRQ 2 was assigned to ?Programmable Interrupt Controller?. The Programmable Interrupt Controller is shown in the Device Manager as ?No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device?.

I suspect I need a BIOS upgrade. However, I feel there could be other solutions for some or all the three problems listed.

irq2 is a programable interrupt controller that redirects to irq9. I would suspect either a memory or motherboard problem here since the irq2 is predetermined by the bios and cpu circuitry. The fact that the system cold boots fine but doesn't re-boot warm is an indication of cpu overheat, memory overheat, or other motherboard problems. As for mediaplayer 9 and active-x there are known problems of these causing excessive strain on memory, cpu and video as well as bios upgrade concerns.

Do you experience problems on sessions where you didn't use mediaplayer or other graphic intensive features?

gives you some palces to start
