There are companies that can do that for you. Google for "Data recovery hard disk" and you should get a list of those companies near where you live. You'll probably be looking at a price around $800.-- (+).

Or there could be a small chance if can find the exact same model of harddisk someone wants to sell on the web (ebay), then replace the electronics of your bad disk with those of the good disk. If your lucky the disk may be like new again. And that would bemuch cheaper...

Of course none of us can give you a definitive answer cause we don't know whats wrong with your drive.

The best course of action is to get a new primary drive, put an OS and some tools on it, and try to mount your drive as a slave drive.

Personally I have used Norton tools for a long time. There are more extensive recovery tools out there. But Norton Disk Doctor is easy to use.

If you really need your data, and cost is no concern, there are companies which will do very thorough recoveries with special tools. Its not cheap, but if you need the data they are there - google on data recovery. They can even deal with things like bad HD controller boards, platters with physical flaws etc.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't point out that if you really need the data, you should do regular backups.

plenty of software available, most of them are not free. First try
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

It's free and it works. If money no issue, go for 'paid' software. Best is http://www.ontrack.com/software/. The lite version allows you to recover 25 files at a time.

However, if yoru drive is physically damaged, you'll need to contact a professional recovery company. Charges vary. They might be able to get your data back.

Good luck.
