    Browse List Not Appearing

    Locked

    by nmoore ·

When a Windows 95 client dials into a NT domain via an IBM 8235 Dial-In Manager the client cannot see the browse list in Network Neighbourhood.

Client’s IP address is assigned by the IBM dialer.
Client has static WINS and DNS entries.

I would check the RAS settings for the protocol that you are using. Control Panel, Network Icon, Services, RAS, Properties, what you are looking for is a radio button which says ‘Entire Network’. I suspect that it says ‘This computer only’ and thatis why the laptop cannot see any computers in the Network Neighbourhood.

Agree with the top answer. also check the Workgroup assignment under properties of Network Neighborhood.
95 machines have never done a good job when comes to RAS, you would probably have better luck with 98’s.
I wonder if they get the domain logon window (you didn’t mentioned)when dialing in.
Perhaps, a batch logon script would help the clients to find resources, for now.

      Good luck!

Browse list? WHo needs it anyways. Too buggy…

Be sure you are a member of the same workgroup as well as what was mentioned above…

There is one more solution but I don’t know if this your problem. If they have a PCMCIA nic card in when they dial 95 had this feature that would try to use the NIC first and then RAS. The solution was to take the NIC out and dial-in and it would browse. They fixed this in 98. So Good Luck!
