Browser for a CD project

By Don Christner ·
Hi all,

I am working on a project to put out a CD for my company. Everything will be in PDF format, I have one main file that has links to all of our instruction manuals and other data.

The problem is that I can not find an elegant way of returning to the main file using Acrobat Reader. If I have the users use the back button of the History toolbar, it moves back one page at a time (if you've viewed multiple pages, like an instruction manual). I suppose I could have them click File and then reopen the main document, but then they lose their location within the main document (apparently Reader can only open one file at a time).

If you do not have a way to do this in Reader, do you know of any browser that is free to distribute AND natively opens PDF files? It must also run off of the CD, I do not want to install anything on the users computer.

I know, I know, I am asking for the moon. but, it never hurts to ask!

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,

If these are hyperlinks, then it would seem easy to goto the hyperlink properties, then to "Target", and select "Open new window".

Then, when they are finished doing what they must do there, they close the window are find themselves right back where they started from.

Hope this works for you.
Cheers
George

I rejected this answer, but invite you to clarify your answer. I'll definitely award points if your way works.

My main document starts off as a Word2000 doc. Then, using PDFMaker (from Adobe for Word), it creates the PDF. I know in Word that you can right-click the hyperlink and tell it to open in a new window, but that is only for that one instance. In Reader, I do not see how they can open in a new window. I am giving only print permissions on the PDF files. The users will only have access to the PDF files, not the Word files.
