    by dave7072 ·

G’day, I’m in a situation where I have an old PIII running: Win95 Ver 4.00.950B Can anyone suggest a browser that would suit this old OS? (I immediately d/l Opera, but info says it’s not guaranteed to work on an OS older than Win98) Thanks heaps, DAve

You should be able to get older versions of Netscape at Silly Dog.

Many thanks 🙂 I’ve got an archive of 4.77 somewhere too.
I should have thought of that! I appreciate your kind help. best regards, DAve

Try Mozilla or Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org). Mozilla is a big package with everything like mail client etc, and firefox is the smaller and faster brother of Mozilla with which you can just browse. Both are very configurable, can block popups etc. You can also download different skins so you can make it look the way you want it to. They work on windows 98, and as windows 95 is almost the same as 98 they shouldn’t have any problems with your OS.

Internet Explorer 5.5 or earlier works with Win95.

A backhanded way to install IE is to install AOL and then uninstall it. AOL installs IE and leaves it when AOL is uninstalled.

You can install IE from the AOL CD without installing AOL if you know where to look.

I know what you mean but I’m in Australia and I’m pretty sure the AOL CD’s of that era never made it out here 🙂 kind regards, DAve
