I have some machines that are running Windows 95 and are not able to browse SMS servers on different subnets. I get an “error reading drive ?, Abort Retry Fail”,when the machine tries to connect to the SMS Servers UNC from the Logon Script. Whats strange is that I can browse these Servers from within Windows Explorer but cannot do a NET VIEW from a command prompt. I can view an SMS Server on my subnet but cannot view an SMS Server on another subnet. I can however view other Servers on the remote subnets. So far I have done the following.
1. Rebuilt all of the WINS Servers and verified that they are resolving names.
2. Used BROWMON, BROWSTAT, and DOMMON to verify the Master and Segment Browsers for the Domain.
3. Tried shuttingdown the SMS Services on all the SMS Servers.
4. Removed the SMS Client from the workstations.
5. Changed the workstations NetBIOS name so it would have to re-register with WINS.
Has anybody seen this before?
