BSOD after 64 bt Vista home premiun windows updates

By mommeeof10 ·
Hubby ran all the critical updates last week. The pc rebooted, my son logged in and after a few minutes pc rebooted by itself. It then came up to a BSOD with the error message "NTFS.SYS Page_fault_ in_ nonpaged_area" Pc now will not load windows, either goes back to this screen or if I try to get into safe mode, tells me there is a start up problem and if I choose to fix it, pc just freezes. Trying to restore gets me nowhere. It is dell dimension I519. The guys from the Staples extended warrantee plan said they are sending me a new hard drive and motherboard to install to see if that fixes it, but there must be an easier way.

I did a Google search & saw a few references to bad RAM...

Some people said just reseating the RAM fixed the problem & others went through each stick of RAM until they found the bad one.

It would be kinda odd to have the RAM problem happen when you did the updates but you just never know.

It wouldn't take much to give it a try.

Is a RAM Error so you need to start looking there.

Sometimes just removing and reseting the RAM will do the trick but you really should use a Soft Rubber/Eraser on the contacts to clean then before refitting.

Another possibility is if extra RAM has been added you have hit a Timing Issue with the different RAM Modules that's not so easy to fix as you need to fit identical RAM.
