    BSOD error on NT4 server

    Locked

    by p.j.hutchison ·

I have justed installed post SP6a patches on 2 NT4 servers (never been patched). Each set of patches required installing seperately. One server was done as was ok. The second server had a BSOD error after installing second patch (prob was Q299444). I came up with KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED 0x0000001E (0xC0000005 etc) on ntoskrnl.exe just after the Logon screen appeared.

I managed to get hold of some ERD disk, I had to add a ADPU160M.SYS driver to disk set to recognise Hard disk. Now I replaced the ntoskrn.exe with one from SP6a. Still BSOD’d.
Then I tried to uninstall Q266444 by copying the files out from the $ntuninstall dir into c:\winnt\system32 but still no go.

    Any ideas?

Are there newer hard disk drivers available?

Had to rebuild NT4 again and copied programs and settings from old hard disk to get it working again. Attempts to repair or recover system failed.
