BSoD when inserting USB drive

by daryl_holt . Updated 17 years, 11 months ago

Operating System: Win XP Home Edition.

I get a Blue Screen of Death system shutdown, when I insert any Flash Drive or External HDD into a USB port.

The Drives work OK on other computers.

Other USB connected devices still operate OK (Scanner & USB keyboard Light)

Other than this particular problem, the rest of the system seems to be fine

Can’t seem to find anything in the event log related to it.

Scanned for Virus’s – Spyware – RootKits – bots.

Tried system restore.

BSoD error message:
A problem has been detected & Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

An attempt was made to execute non-executeable memory.

If this is the First time… blah – blah ? blah? follow these steps.
Check that new hardware or software is properly installed… blah – blah ? blah?

(there has been no new hardware or software added)
