BU domain cotroller on .net server...

By camy2079 ·
I currently have a W2k server which serves as my DC. I have a spare server (currently a Terminal Server), loaded with .net. I'd like to make this second server a secondary DC. When I ran DC promo it said I needed to run ADprep due to imcompatibilty issues. Any thoughts? Has anyone encountered this? I'm not familar with ADprep.

Basically, I can't get the .net server to become a DC for my local domain....

Thanks

BU domain cotroller on .net server...

There are a few issues with this. Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/windowsnetserver/Evaluate/cpp/reskit/adsec/part1/rkpdsw2k.asp to get more information. (Don't forget to take out the spaces inthe URL placed there by TR) From what I get out of all of the Microsoft Documents, ADPrep is only needed if you are migrating a Windows 2000 Domain to a .NET Domain. Windows 2000 Domains and .NET Domains aren't the same. They have different schemas, default security descriptors of selected objects, directory objects. You can't have them both function as DCs in a Windows 2000 Domain. Hope this helps, Jeremy
