The way I read it is that the majorityof the time will be spent by the WinME asking for and waiting on the individual devices for their information.
This information goes through the BIOS so there is a small possibility that an upgraded BIOS may speed things up again, but I wouldn't bet on it.
I wouldn't expect there is a whole lot of processing in building the database - it looks like its a few lookups and entries on the registry - but a faster PC will certainly do it faster...
In a nutshell....
1. Have fewer devices in your PC. 2. Buy ones that identify themselves quickly. 3. Buy a faster PC (for the processing side of things.
