Building computer, won't boot...

By Xiviergaming ·
I am putting together my own PC,I have all of the parts installed.

Now I go to turn on the pc, it starts, fans run etc...but nothing goes onto the monitor, even though the monitor turns on and then, as if it is not getting any other signal turns off.

I put the LCD Poster in the Motherboard....the codes I am getting are as follows:

DET DRAM
CHECK CPU
VGA BIOS

Looking in the manual now those say :

DET DRAM - Detect memory - Auto-detection of Dram size, type and ECC.
- Auto-detection of L2 cache

CHECK CPU - Detect CPU information including brand, type and CPU level (586 or 686)

VGA BIOS - Initialize VGA BIOS

Also, the RAM I have is incompatible with this new mobo. Would that hold it all down?

If not that, any other ideas?

If the RAM

is not compatible it wont work full stop. Replace the RAM with the type that is intended for the Motherboard.

See if this will help

by Jacky Howe In reply to If the RAM

Does your new memory match the Qualified Vendors List 2.4.

Clean the golden edge of each memory stick with a soft rubber/eraser, remembering not to touch the golden edge of the memory stick. Check with one stick at a time, remembering to disconnect the power from the PC.

Try another Monitor.

Check your Manual and use the Slide switch to reset the CMOS 2.6

Connect the onboard speaker 2.8 so that you will be able to hear the BIOS beeps.

If you have used the ASUS Q-Connector make sure that it is configured properly.

Check chapter 3.1 for Starting for the first time.

Try PT's advice on reseating the CPU.

Building computer, won't boot...

by genesane In reply to Building computer, won't ...

Bad RAM usually gives you a blank monitor.
Since your RAM isn't compatible with the MB,
I would replace it with a right one.

still don't work

I just put in new, compatible RAM...and still the same thing happens. According to the LED's on the motherboard, I am getting to high of a voltage for my RAM...

Pull out the Power cord.....

by ---TK--- In reply to still don't work

purge the system (hold in the power button, you will see the fans twitch), set the BIOS the default state (with the jumpers), boot the PC, and config the BIOS to the correct settings.... that would be my first plan of attack...

Beeps?

by LarryD4 In reply to Building computer, won't ...

EVERY motherboard tells you whats its doing as it boots with a series of beeps. For example when the MB sees bad RAM it will beep 3 times.

Does your board do anything like that at alL?

If you remove the ram and startup the PC it should give you some beeps indicating no RAM at all.

Bottom line is if your not getting these basic BIOS Post beeps something is wrong with MB or CPU.

Find the MB manual and look for the BIOS Post beep sequences for your board.

no beeps.

by Xiviergaming In reply to Beeps?

No beeps as of now( though I may not have the speaker for the motherboard connected at this time as I was going for a clean start before connecting everything.

And as far as getting into the BIOS, I cannot get the monitor to show any information on it...it turns on then back off...

Ok, we need the specs of your mb and graphic card.

That way we can sort of see your components.
At least your motherboard make and number.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.
If this info is useful, please mark it helpful. Thanks
