burning audio CD

By cato0211 ·
I have 2 computers, HP & Dell. Both have WinMediaPlayer,Roxio, Burn4Free and Sonic to burn audio files to CD. All burn successfully but CD's will not play on CD player, only on computers. HP also has burn software (Folder=HP RecordNow, File=mycd.exe)that works great and works on CD player. The mycd.exe is Veritas software.

In all cases the burned files have .cda extensions. Can anyone tell me why only the HP RecordNow will play on both computer and CD player? I have tried DAO & TAO and burn at default speed.

What OS is on each machine?

by OH Smeg In reply to burning audio CD

Generally if they have the same File Types that they burn to CD they should work. However a certain Newly Released OS made buy the most common maker has protection built in to prevent Digital Copying of Files, so that may be involved here it's called Vista.

Now assuming that the Media is all the same and you are using the one lot of CD Blanks to produce these disc's that isn't an issue as one lot work on your CD Player but if they where different the Dye on the Disc could be the problem. Some CD Players do not see some Dye Lots and see others. Also some CD Players do not play recorded CD's at all.

If the computers are identical otherwise having the same OS and Blank Media and the CD Player plays Recorded CD's then both should be able to produce Playable Music CD's on all player types.

The only possible difference then would be that the Software used to burn the Disc's has a Copyright Protection built in and this prevents the CD Player reading the Burnt CD.

OS

by cato0211 In reply to What OS is on each machin ...

Same OS on both systems (XP-Home). Blanks are from same box, and work OK if I use HP provided burn software. Same burned files won't play if burned with other software. I don't think it's a copyright issue, becuase disks will play on computer, just not on CD player. Unfortunately I can't use th HP provided program on the DELL. I'm really confused on this one!!!! By the way-Txs for the response.
