    Burning CD’s?

    Locked

    by nollage7 ·

Yes I do not have CD Burner, but want somebody to burn some songs for me. On my computer I have converted the songs, from program files to WAV files. My problem is, is the songs are to big to be put on a floppy, so I can give it to him and he can burn the songs for me. How or what would I use to put the songs on? Could I covert the songs to something else then put it on a floppy, and give it to him to burn? Or? I would just ask him to bring his burner over, but it’s not his.

    thanks

Option 1: Buy or Borrow a CD-R and install it on your system

Option 2: Buy or borrow an external storage device, such as a ZIP drive or external HD. Plug in to your system, copy the files, move it to the other system.

Option 3: Use the Internet or a direct modem connection. (Possible problems: very slow transfers on a 56k, and files will be too big to email to most ISP accounts.)

Option 4: Put both systems together on a LAN. (You need two ethernet cards and either a hub or a crossover ethernet cable) Copy the files directly.

Option 5. Take out your HD and put it in his. Direct copy from one drive to the other (or burn it from your drive.)

Many ways to skin this cat…

One further option would be to try and compress the file(s) using a program such as WinZip.
However this may not compress the file(s) sufficiently to fit on a floppy. If the uncompressed files is less the about 2.5MB, you may have a chance, if it’s larger, it probably won’t work.

      Just as a note:
I would take a long hard look at the overall cost of the ZIP system before I would buy one.
At 250MB for the new ZIP disks, you would need at least 5 for a full CD worth of music.
At $10 each, that is $50 plus the cost of the drive.

For the same money, (likely less) you could have an internal CD-RW drive and 50 blank disks.

If this is a one shot situation, you could use Winzip, and just span the files across multiple disks.

Alternately, if you want to avoid the CD-RWdrive, a cheap file swap system would be to use a hot swap bay, and an old small hard drive.
You can find hot swap bays for under $15. A used 2.5GB drive can be had for under $30.
Install a hot swap bay in both machines. (set up the drive with only and extended dos partition to keep it from interfeering with installed hard drives)
Load the drive into your machine, copy the files.
Take the carrier out, and take it over to your friend.
He can then just slide the carrier into his matching hot swap bay, and away you go.
