All very fascinating...

...perhaps enough so to start a new discussion on the future of verbal communication. An education forum, maybe?

I think it would be a good idea.

And look for a Long Wait while the guy in the Parts Department finds me a Square Drill so I have drill a Square Hole in some metal.

Then I'll go looking for some Plycraft Welding rods to weld that Plywood boat together.

That should be moved to the TR Education Site

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to All very fascinating...

Not the Water Cooler where we are supposed to have some fun.

With the continued Specialization of TR being brought in perhaps you might like to go there for all of these silly side issues that are completely Irrelevant.

Now it it pronounced Bit or Byte? ?

SINCE I just got here, and AS we're discussing verbal (not 'typed'?)...

by hippiekarl In reply to That should be moved to t ...

communication DUE TO another thread's 'uproarus immodicus', and BECAUSE no one's said yet-----it's 'byte' (I almost used it homonymously on the other thread: "Byte me, pal!", but underneath the crusty exterior I'm too nice a guy)!

Ok, for those not interested in the roasty mood of the original...

by AnsuGisalas In reply to By distinction

The original started out with a criticism of the use of since without a time-aspect: "Since I don't do A, I can't know B".
I responded with criticizing the concept of language authority. Who gets to decide what the language should be.
Come to that, what the **** is a language anyway; where do you find "The Language", and how do you keep that apart from the way the language is used?
Let's start with that, in case anybody is interested.

You may have to wait for what you said about finding The Language to percolate, if it ever does. For anyone operating exclusively all their life within, yours is revolution without.

Within is the rub...

by AnsuGisalas In reply to Before you start

Sure, it's in here, the language.*taps temple*
And I can tell from the words coming out of your keyboard, that you've got one too, a language... but they can't be the same one, can they? (both are englishes, but not the same)
So, what are they? And what's this outside thing we all talk about, point to... where's the Language? And how does the Language relate to each language?
