Bypassing Proxy Server

By tenny ·
I recently enabled access control on my proxy server and now I can't stream real audio and i have trouble on certian sites downloading. I would like to bypass the proxy server from just my computer. This must be possible, can anyone help to do this ?

Bypassing Proxy Server

you have two methods of doing this...

(i'm assuming you are using Microsoft proxy here!)

check the knowledge base for the way to open ports thru your firewall to allow real audio access, or:

the other way assumes you have direct connection to the service which your proxy uses - for example directly patching into a port on your router to allow direct access, bypassing the proxy altogether. in that case you'd need to reconfigure your machine to use the DNS server addresses of your ISP, along with the gateway address of the router and any proxy which your ISP uses.

when proxy access control is enabled it is to specifically deny access past it, otherwise everybody would be bypassing it every chance they get! if it is microsoft proxy you can open ports thru it to allow realaudio access, it's just thru socks or winsock proxy rather than thru HTTP. from what I can remember, although realaudio can access thru an http proxy, Microsoft proxy does not allow access thru HTTP.

hope this helps

john.

Hi, I recently got rid of my Proxy Server because it was such a headache. We have had trouble getting streaming video from day 1. If you are going to keep the Proxy Server the only workaround I came up with is to right-click the link and choose "save target as" and save it to a folder. Then you should be able to run it from that folder.
Hope this helps some.

What I ended up doing was creating certain groups that had certain access to specefic services of the proxy such as FTP,Real Audio, etc. Some of the users only have Web Browsing access only, some have ftp/web access, some have ftp, web, real audio, etc. of course I gave myself full access to everything.

By creating "Proxy Groups", this solution turned out to be a great way to allocate specefic users restricted access to the proxy.

Best of luck.

The site listed below is a great source of information for MS Proxy.
