C hange URL address in IE6 win 98

By Judge Dread ·
While surfing the net a site purposely changed my home page URL to its URL. Now my question is ....how do I go about eliminating this pesky URL where the file resides to keep it from replacing my home page URL whenever I reboot, etc.?

It will be in the Registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Look at Start Page. You can change that to whatever home page you want.
Also look in:
HKEY_USERS\the_SID_for_your_user_account\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Again, the Start Page.

hope this helps.

You pointed me in the right direction. However, it did not help me. I tried retyping my home page URl in place of the pesky one and also tried deleting the whole line and upon reboot everything was right back as if I hadn't done anything. There was actually 16 places where that pesky URL was found. It also resided in LOCAL_MACHINE. By the way check answer #2. The StartPage Guard utility was my salvation of this day ...it is real neat and works fantastically...try it. Now I am back to normal and have upgraded my systems files in exploreras well..also virus profiles. I appreciate your response.

Thanks for all the URL's and the advice I should try StartPage Guard. Before I did I went into the registry and found 16 places where that pesky URL resided. It didn't matter if I replaced the URL with my home page URL or if I deleted the entire line...upon reboot it all was back as if I hadn't done a thing. After I downloaded and installed StartPage Guard it found a malicious code and I clicked on "KILL IT" and it did...Great Utility! Many thanks for your beneficial and timely reply as it saved my day.
