C++ compiler

Can you tell what is the best C++ compiler available for a beginner using Windows 98 and office 2000.
I am at the moment starting a course in programming in c++

Hi,

I dont know whether its the "best" compiler although a lot of people love it and use it...

The open source people come the the rescue yet again! Take a look at...

http://gcc.gnu.org/

Their compiler is called gcc and is freely downloadable from that site. There's lots of documentation too so it'd be perfect to start with.

You might want to take a look at this site also. Lots of good info here. About halfway down in the right column it has a link for compilers..
