cable modem

Can I use my router instead of Cox's cable modem they make me pay for each month?

No you can't use a standard router in place of your cable modem.

If you have a Cable router with a built-in cable modem, contact the router manufacture and see if built-in cable modem is compatible with your cable system.

If so, connect the cable line directly to the modem input on the router, and verify that it works.

Keep in mind, that should your ISP change technologies, you will need to buy or rent a new modem at that time.
