Can a Cisco 7936 polycom phone run on an Avaya PBX

I have a project manager who swears up and down that the Polycom conference phones are the same for Cisco and Avaya. He says you just need to find the corresponding Avaya model number and get the load for it and it’ll work. However I have not been able to get any documentation on this from either Avaya or Cisco. Has anyone done this/seen this done
